  • Might want to change the link, Go to Deal doesn't go to deal.

    • I couldn't put the link directly as it wouldn't let me. Hence it's in the body of the post :(

  • Doesn't seem to be that good of a deal. I was with MyRepublic last year and paying $59 per month, 100/20 plan, pretty much same package.

Also, friends don't let friends join MyRepublic.

    • what do you mean friends dont let friends join my republic? been with them for 4 yuears now and have had the least issues out of any ISP ive been with.

I thought the saying was friends dont let friends join stuff/vodafone/spark isps?

You should check out posts on Reddit or Geekzone. The common concensus is don't go with them. I cbf going into the details, but going with 2Degrees would be a much better choice. Better CDN, no CGNAT bullshit, etc, better exchange handoff, etc.

Before I switched to MyRepublic, I've been with every other ISPs out there. I don't run any servers or services at home, so I don't mind being on 100/20 fiber. That's not to say I don't care about having good consistent speed though. I've always been getting a consistent 100~105 Mbps down and 20 up. Same devices, same firmware, same router, everything remain unchanged. Then all of a sudden I start to get like 60~80 MBps down after I switched to MyRepublic.

They sorted it in the end, nothing wrong with my setup. But I've had to deal with them constantly, even when I moved house they lost my static IP subscription somehow.

For most home consumers, most ISPs will probably be the same to them so won't matter. Regardless, at this price, I wouldn't call MyRepublic cheap.

Also, their support SUCKS. It's like they hired a bunch of monkeys for their support team. I'm not a network engineer, but I sure am Cisco and Microsoft certified and know my shit. Every time I deal with their support, I always have to ask to be escalated directly to their level 3 support, just so I can relay some basic information. And even then, they would take ages to come back to me, despite that I have already done multiple tests and forwarded my findings to them. Useless.

Even when I moved house, I told them multiple times that I'm still on a contract with them, so don't cancel anything, yet they cancelled my static IP subscription. When I signed up with them, I thought their DLINK MIR 882 router was a pretty good deal (I think I bought it for like $99 and normally it costs like $399). When I moved, they asked me to give it back to them as well and I had to explain to multiple people that I'm still in contract with them, etc etc. Just a lot of bullshit I've had to deal with and from what I have read online on forums, seems like most people have had similar experiences.

Bottom line, the performance you get is no where near 2Degrees. This is especially true once you go up to the gigabit fiber plan and then you'll start seeing what you're getting for your money.

        • 2degrees does have CGNAT unless you pay $10/mo for a static IP.

        • Just to balance it out

2degrees does get caught red handed recently for prioritising traffic for customers with speed test equipments. So there is that.

    • What's wrong with MyRepublic? Curious as I just had 12 months with them with no issues!

      • You can read my new reply above. If you've had no issues, no reason to change. It really depends on your usage and requirements. Most ISPs for most home consumers will be "fine".

It's basically like saying that most cars will be suitable for most people. As long as they drive, right? But if you really care about the nitty gritty details, such as fuel consumption, performance, etc, then you'll compare the options and look at what's actually good for your money.

        • Agree with you. Reason I change is the price. We shouldn't expect alot from call center staff as they get paid peanuts. Been there :(

3 months free or 6 months half price is a better deal I think

  • The $50 refree is when you go thru MyRepublic directly. For this deal you have to go thru broadband compare. I was on the $59.99 deal last year. Best deal this year is stuff special which expired in November. Again thru broadband compare 4 months free and then $79.99 per month. Worked out to be $640 a year or $54 a months :).

    • Can I know the 4 months free deals please which company the deal from?

      • It was stuff fibre it's gone but they have 3 months free then $79.99 works out to be $720 รท12 its roughly works out to be $59.99. So a bit better than MyRepublic. Link is https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/compare

  • i got the $60 deal last year, and when it finally got connected it was fine, but for the 3 or so months i was waiting to get connected they would charge me every month and id have to explain that i hadnt been connected, then id get threatening texts about disconnection and credit companies etc, it was quite stressful, and when i finally got connected they counted those 3 months of threats and no service as 3 months of "deal" so i only get 9 months of that deal. when i leave im never using them again

    • That's really bad. Was it a brand new fiber install?

      • yeah, and to make it more annoying while being charged for non existent fibre i got a visit from a my republic door knocker trying to sell me a plan.

        • Ok this what would have happen. Your order with the ISP posted in there system. They should have closed that order and done a new one. Sounds like call center staff were lazy and no one owned up to it. It's a shame as I can see its left a very bad impression with the whole process and not counting your frustrations and the hassle you had to go thru.

          • @Kury: Is there no way he can make the complaint and get the money back? My friend have experience with Orcon before which waiting for the Fibre to install for few months, they end up didn't charge her for the adsl and another month free.

            • @doubledippps: There is alot of factors that delay the new fibre install. Which area?

  • FYI ex call center staff for a major ISP. I can try to help with any pesky questions.

    • I just moved from Myrepublic to Stuff. Pretty good experience with both so far, but I'm no power user, my contract was expiring and I shopped around like any rational homoeconomicus. Anyway to the experience,

I called the Myr to transfer then Stuff to join, then Stuff called me saying couldn't put a transfer request to Chorus because there was a disconnect request on the line(?) I called chorus and they said there is no disconnect request, I went back to Myr to confirm that my request is to transfer, not disconnect. I'm not sure what happened but Stuff called back a few days later and everything is resolved. Any idea what happened?

      • MyRepublic would have done a disconnection order in place so stuff couldn't do a transfer order or a new connection until the disconnection order completed. The best advise is if you haven't got a landline with your old provider is to disconnect with them and do a new connection with the new provider. Saves alot of hassle and you use your full 30 days notice period.

        • i thought disconnect/new connection is worse than a transfer, takes 2 techs to the exchange to disconnect and connect?

          • @justaddwater: Normally same applies if a transfer takes place as a tech has to disconnect the connection and remove old prodivers equipment and setup the new providers equipment these normally apply to copper connection adsl or vdsl. With fiber its mostly automated.
