100

Well Dick is dead. Yesterday it was announced all stores would be closed within the next 2 months and a current DSE employee has said the below. Note source is not yet confirmed, but best to alert you all earlier rather than later?

"The Receivers will undertake a major stock realisation sale to sell down the stock currently in your store. The sale will start on Friday, 26 February 2016."

Sales: Yes there will be a sale. As far as scope goes I can't comment yet, all I know is that is begins tomorrow (26/02/2016) and will run in each store as long as that store is there.

Asmcar has confirmed over 5000 price updates have been processed. Let the bargain hunting begin!

  • Will be interesting to see what kind of closing down deals they have, but by the time I get to a store they will probably be gone. Feel sad for the employees though, must be hard on them knowing they only have about 2 months left.

    • I wouldn't be so sure on that. If everything is on clearance, staff will likely be unable to (nor bothered to) label each item with the correct prices allowing the ones in the know to snap the good deals.

      • I got told today they're not receiving individual pricing labels for the new prices because they'd take too long to put up. Sounds like they're getting large category discount signs instead such as "10% off all TV's" etc.

Staff will get dibs on clearance stock, and I'm fine with that.

  • Feel free to post any good buys you see if you go in

Okay update from Wellington CBD Featherston St:

    5000+ price changes overnight.

No amazing deals as of yet, most of them are 20% off, phones are 20% off with 5% off iPhones.

10% off TVs, 30% off phone cases and looks like 20% off laptops etc.

Probably wouldn't rush out to grab anything but I still need to look at the pricing list which I haven't done yet. A surprising amount of stock at Featherston St.

Also, be nice to the staff. Just chatting to one who had been with the company a very long time, his only job so it would have taken a fair bit to come in today.

    • Thanks for confirming the sale Asmcar, if you manage to compile the list I might delete this deal and let you post your own as you are the Dick Smith master.

I just read 85 pages of price changes, will compile list of best deals soon and post but for now:

        GoPro 4 $500
        Kindle Touch $100
        Kindle paperwhite $179
        Kindle Paperwhite + 3G $200

All of these are lowest on PriceSpy and the GoPro is by $80-$100. All GoPros are marked down.

Seems like the best deals will be on items that are usually pretty firm on price.

        • @asmcar:

Could you post/email the full pricing list? I'm interested in seeing what discounts are available across all categories.

        • @Mark Wasley: I highly doubt that asmcar would have been allowed to take a copy of the entire list, but I could be wrong. You could always visit your local store?

        • @Wellington: I might have to do that, but it won't be until next week. Cheers.

          @Mark Wasley:

Hi Mark, I usually try not to take photos of the price lists, the staff have always been nice enough to allow me to read them I don't like to push my luck.

Also since it was 80 pages I decided it would have taken too long!!

      • Posted a new deal - not a whole lot going on to be honest but it's the best I could spot.

        • any marked down 3/4g modems or sims with data etc?

        • @Teckiwi:

Sorry not sure. Didn't see them on price change list but may have missed them. I know while I was there they price checked a $5 sim and it was still full price, they were surprised at that I think.

  • Don't expect huge deals on the first day. Find out exactly what you want and then monitor the price & stock level in store in the next couple of weeks. Buy it when the stock gets low - call the store if you need to. The reason is because the liquidator, Hilco, tend to start off with small discounts in the beginning, and then increase the discount as time passes. Stores have up to 8 weeks to clear their stock and fittings.

  • Any idea if the iTunes gift card would be on the promotion list?

    • I believe they said all gift cards/electronic currency would be excluded.

  • Keep checking and posting people!!!

    • Nothing really interesting, have updated the deal URL to that one though.

    • Just seen on website.

  • Great price for the 8pack eneloops! Cheapest I've seen in NZ. Definitely a must buy for me even if I have like 30 already :P

    • So… Uninspiring! Going to the local DS is not something I will be doing today.

      • Perhaps someone who had gone into DS recently can give us a status report? Much inventory still there?

        • Will go in tomorrow if you want, will let you know… If I survive!

        • +1

Well, I survived… Just. Absolutely nothing in there even worth looking twice at.

Another 6 price changes overnight, all beats related products.
Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Wireless is now $419, $100 cheaper than next competitor.

  • Looks like Apple has increased to 10%, still nowhere worth it IMO.

  • The deals aren't as good as I thought they'd be. Is it ever going to close down?
