Mevo have added the Suzuki Swift to their network, and are giving out $20 in free credit to celebrate.

Redeem by 16th May 2024.

    Thanks op

  • If I'm not live in Wellington but traveling to soon can I use this? Seem like it ask for address when signup

    • It doesn’t matter, address is mostly for insurance only. Anyone can sign up but their service areas are only Auckland and Wellington (also Hamilton but it’s less flexible).

      • Thanks mate I will give it a go

  • Never used it before. Any good?

I've used them! You can rent a Tesla if you've never driven one for fun $30p/hr , goes zoom zoom :)

      • Is there any other fees beside insurance we need to pay? Got $40 from signup+redswift here

        • +2

The only 'other' fees are if you pick up/drop off at an airport location - it attracts an airport surcharge. The surcharge is charged against your payment card, but otherwise your account credit can be used as you like.

I took a BYD for a spin about a month ago in Auckland. Had it for 2 hours and dropped it off at the airport - so got the airport surcharge ($30) against my card and the account credit covered the 2 hour rental.

I took a 5 day long weekend in wellington, and used them extensively.

12 trips, ~$300 spend (no fuel / charging or parking cost). Not bad. Last time I had a normal rental car it was $150 for a day + fuel for a Yaris cross (not as nice as the mevo fleet cars). And parking at our wellington hotel was $40 a night… (granted street parking could have been cheaper).

Basically treated it like an Self drive uber. But also took a few scenic drives, given we had access to nice cars. Drove transmission gully (which I have never done before) in a polestar which was quite nice.

I am a bit of an enthusiast, but hadn't driven any of the three EV models in their fleet, so it was nice to add the polestar, model 3 & Atto3 to my list which previously was Leaf (AZE0), kona, mg zs ev, e-golf, ioniq (classic), Model S, EV6, BMW i3

Car's are quite beaten up, I guess that comes with the territory of a share fleet. Takes a few minutes to photograph & report damage before departing (can do exterior damage before unlocking if you don't want to pay for that time).

One car had two brightly coloured womans G strings in the back seat footwell :)

Standard insurance excess is $2500, which I am ok with, but would be a lot for some.

Not being a Passenger service vehicle, car seat laws for kids apply.

Compared to using uber, you end up doing a lot of walking to get car's.

On Sunday, the entire wellington central area was empty of car's, with all available cars parked at the edges of the zones.

      • Thanks mate! I live in Wellington so I know what you mean by them disappearing to the outskirts. I used it for a take home ride Thursday night since I was in the city, so brought home to the Hutt, and drove back to work the next day before 8am. Managed to find a park right outside work too. Fantastic!
A bit pricy to use too often, but if the trains are down like normal, then no reason why I can't get a car for the evening.

  • They need to expand the operating zone in Auckland asap.

  • I had the impression this week that alot of the cars had been deliberately parked away from normal distributed spots, to areas towards the fringes of the Auckland zone, often 2 or 3 cars parked one behind the other. Anyone else notice this?
